Abstract
- The article focuses on doctor Jonathan M. Foltz, who was a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and following promotion to surgeon in the U.S. Navy, in December 1836, he opened a part-time private practice and joined the Medical Association of Washington. Topics include during the 1840s Foltz depended upon the former U.S. president James Buchanan as his particular patron, as well as his chief creditor and personal financial advisor.
