Abstract

In the context of these evolving definitions of bipolar disorder, differentiating that diagnosis from attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in pediatric patients is a challenging task. This work supports previous findings of shared genetic influence between ADHD and bipolar disorder and extends these findings to ADHD and hypomania in youth. Therefore, as the authors note, it is possible that the proportion of shared genetic variance between ADHD and hypomania may be inflated by overlap in mood-related symptoms between ADHD and hypomania that was not accounted for.
