Abstract

Much has been written in the last 40 years on how bones heal and why they may not heal. Previously the attention has been focused on a combination of biology and/or mechanics playing a role in non-union of fractures. The authors will give their, clinically experienced and biased, perspective on why it is all about getting the mechanics right and how and why the mechanics change during the healing process. This will help understanding and management of fracture healing and the management of delayed- and non-union. Careful respect is always given to the biology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
