Abstract

This work aims to evaluate the impact of Lagrangian and Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) approaches used in the orthogonal cutting simulation of Inconel 718 nickel-based superalloy on the simulated forces, cutting temperature, chip morphology, chip compression ratio, and residual stresses on the surface and subsurface. Machining models using these approaches are developed, and they include a recent proposed constitutive material model considering the effects of strain hardening, strain-rate, state of stress, and temperature. The simulated results are compared to experimental ones, in order to determine which approach simulates better the orthogonal cutting of Inconel 718. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
