Giorgio Chittolini was born in Parma in 1940 but he attended University in Milan, where also taught for most of his life. A scholar of the agricultural reality and the mechanisms of formation and functioning of the State between the late Middle Ages and the early modern age, he made fundamental contributions to the nature and development of Italian regional states. His studies about the city and the thick political and patrimonial interwining that in those centuries strongly tied the secular and ecclesiastical power are also very significant.
