Abstract
- The framing activities of African-American predecessors of King enabled the Gandhian repertoire’s transnational diffusion from a Southern to a Northern social movement. To explore the framing-transnational diffusion nexus, this paper starts with a brief review of existing social movement theories. Then it discusses three specific ?moments? of interaction between African-American intellectuals and Gandhians in India, and their effects on African-American frames and applications of the Gandhian repertoire in the United States. The final section considers the theoretical relevance of my empirical findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
