Abstract
- This paper examines the micro- and macro-level determinants of attitudes toward women?s labor force participation. Using data from ISSP (1994), a Hierarchical Linear Model is constructed to evaluate the variation of attitudes toward female labor force participation in 19 European countries and the U.S. The results suggest that female employment has a significant impact on attitudes toward women?s work at the individual level. At the macro level, social structural factors are proved to be influential on general attitudes in a country, such as service sector development, state ideology and country?s overal education level.
