Abstract
- This article reports that U.S. travelers to the Hajj in Saudi Arabia have increased risk of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup W-135 infection. The study was conducted by Peter M. Dull and collaborators at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, Georgia and Emory University. Dull and his coauthors published the results of their research in the "Journal of Infectious Diseases." According to a study from the U.S., in 2000, a large international outbreak of meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup W-135 was identified among pilgrims returning from the Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
