Environmental Problems and Policy: 2000-2050.

The article presents information according to which the next fifty years will bring continued environmental improvement in the United States, wider use of incentive-based regulations, and a shift in power away from the federal government. In 1982, the Scientific Forecasting and Trends Staff of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Office of Research and Development commissioned a consulting company to undertake an environmental foresight study to help the EPA anticipate future environmental problems and recognize emerging trends. The study report was completed in late 1984.
