- PRODUCED BY RACHAEL BURROW • WRITTEN BY STEELE THOMAS MARCOUX Etching a Tradition Master stencil carver Rokutani Baiken (left, 1907-73) practices the art of katagami in which layers of washi paper are soaked in tannin-rich persimmon juice, then carved, often in leaf or vine motifs, to create stencils used for resist-dyeing textiles. Patek Philippe flexes its mastery of rare handcraft in a dazzling homage to the Japanese tradition of stencil carving - a compelling reminder of art's universal dialect.
