Abstract

Haixin Bridge in Guangzhou is a half-through inclined arch bridge with a main span of 198 m. A curved girder with a standard deck width of 15 m is used, making this bridge the largest and most complex of its kind in the world. Since its opening on 25 June 2021, Haixin Bridge, with minimalistic geometric curves, has created a multi-purpose urban public space with distinctive features of regional traditional culture amidst the mushrooming modern buildings in the central business district (CBD) of Guangzhou. Now it is a popular place much favored and recognized by local citizens, primarily attributable to the structural design of the bridge, which aims not merely at optimal structure and minimal cost, but more importantly at the unity of function, aesthetics and technology.
