Abstract

The article presents an acknowledgement for the book "Geographies of Exclusion." The author was encouraged by critical and constructive comments from Michael Dear and Peter Jackson. Peter, Stephen Frosh and Tristan Palmer also made useful suggestions about ways in which the author could improve the final product. The author has been fortunate in having opportunities to discuss his ideas on exclusion and boundary formation in seminars at St David's University College, Lampeter, Reading, Cambridge and Newcastle Universities, and the Women in Cities conference in Hamburg, 1992. The author is grateful to a number of people who have contributed particular information and advice, including David Matless, James Sidaway, Jo Goodey, who provided some excellent photographs of children in urban environments, and Jacob Sibley, who was able to make Robert de Niro's mumblings in "Taxi Driver" intelligible. The author is very grateful to the technical staff at the School of Geography and Earth Resources, Hull University, particularly John Garner, Paul McSherry and Keith Scurr, for producing the photographs and diagrams.
