Abstract

A recent study conducted by investigators from Des Moines University examined the prevalence and patterns of catastrophic spending for antidiabetic medication in the United States in 2020. The study found that medication costs for antidiabetic drugs have significantly increased, raising concerns about the affordability of these essential treatments. The research analyzed data from the 2020 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey and found that an estimated 10.3% of Americans with diabetes experienced out-of-pocket spending for antidiabetic drugs that reached catastrophic spending thresholds. The study concluded that the affordability of prescribed medication for individuals with diabetes remains a significant challenge for many Americans. [Extracted from the article]
