Abstract
- A patent application from the University of Massachusetts has been made available online, detailing new adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) for gene therapy. These AAVs have variations in their capsid proteins that allow them to target specific tissues, including the liver, central nervous system, ocular tissue, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, breast tissue, pancreatic tissue, urinary tract tissue, uterine tissue, and tissue associated with certain cancers. The application also discusses methods for delivering transgenes to subjects and creating somatic transgenic animal models using these AAVs. The inventors of this patent application are Guangping Gao, Li Luo, Phillip Tai, Yuquan Wei, and Guangchao Xu from the University of Massachusetts. [Extracted from the article]
