Abstract

Researchers from the University of Guadalajara in Mexico have developed a low-cost pupillometer, a device that measures the response of the pupil to LED flash stimuli. This non-invasive technique can be used to analyze the photomotor reflex and diagnose mental, ocular, and other health conditions. The researchers implemented an experimental prototype that includes a web camera and a lighting system to capture pupillary images and induce stimuli. They also developed a robust algorithm to estimate pupil diameters and analyze pupillary behavior. This research provides a new tool for medical diagnosis and expands access to specialized equipment.
