Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the Department of Anatomy focused on the effects of preeclampsia on both the mother and unborn child. Preeclampsia is a condition that occurs during pregnancy and after delivery, characterized by high blood pressure and proteins in the urine. The study examined the histology and ultrastructural changes in the placentas of preeclampsia-affected pregnancies using light and electron microscopy. The findings revealed alterations in the syncytiotrophoblast layer nuclei and the contraction of the villus connective tissue core, which may contribute to impaired nutrient and gas movement.
