Abstract

Scientists at the Boyce Thompson Institute and Cornell University have made a significant advancement in biochemistry by uncovering new insights into a family of metabolites called acylspermidines. These metabolites have an unexpected connection to sirtuins, an enzyme family that regulates essential functions in living organisms. Sirtuins have been linked to age-related diseases, making them a promising target for therapeutic interventions. The researchers discovered acylspermidines through comparative metabolomics and found that they are present in both simple organisms and mammals, including humans. Further research will explore the mechanisms and pharmacological aspects of these findings. [Extracted from the article]
