Abstract

Frans Hals, a Dutch painter from the 17th century, is known for his innovative and lively portraits. The National Gallery, London; the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; and the Gemäldegalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, in collaboration with the Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem, are presenting the largest retrospective of Hals' work in over 30 years. Hals' portraits capture the essence of his subjects, with vibrant brushwork and a naturalistic approach. His group portraits are dynamic and show interaction between the figures. Despite falling out of favor during his lifetime, Hals' art has endured and continues to be celebrated. [Extracted from the article]
