Abstract

Researchers at Gulu University have published a case report on abdominal pregnancy, a rare condition that presents unique diagnostic and management challenges. The report describes the case of a 25-year-old African woman who was referred to a regional hospital in Uganda due to an abnormal presentation of easily palpable fetal parts. The patient underwent emergency laparotomy and successfully delivered a live infant, with the placenta left in situ. The researchers emphasize the importance of prompt diagnosis, interdisciplinary collaboration, surgical planning, and placental management in the management of advanced intra-abdominal pregnancies. The case highlights the possibility of reduced risk of bleeding and the need for blood transfusion with delayed removal of the placenta. [Extracted from the article]
