Abstract

The article discusses the challenges faced by the A63 Castle Street Improvement Scheme in Hull, UK. The project aims to introduce a grade separated junction and improve a 1.5km stretch of the A63 road. The complex ground conditions, including estuarine deposits and a high groundwater table, required extensive ground improvement works. These works involved techniques such as diaphragm wall construction, dry deep mixing ground improvement, and the installation of tension piles and a jet grouting layer. The project team conducted site trials to better understand the ground conditions and ensure safe excavation. The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2025. [Extracted from the article]
