Abstract

This article explores the daily transit patterns of Shanghai, China, in 2015, using various data sources such as remote sensing images, smart card data, and taxi GPS point data. The study analyzes almost 40 years of urban planning and expansion in Shanghai, revealing the hourly transit patterns of different travel modes. The findings suggest that despite efforts to distribute traffic more evenly, the historical urban center remains a constant attraction for urban flow. The article highlights the challenges of shaping urban flow solely through planning forces and emphasizes the power of combining disparate datasets to gain insights into complex conditions.
