Abstract

A recent report from Zhejiang University School of Medicine in China provides an analysis of pediatric pneumococcal meningitis (PM) in Chinese children. The study found that PM is more common in children aged 3 months to less than 3 years old, with fever being the most common symptom. The most common complications were subdural effusion and empyema, as well as hydrocephalus. The study also found that S. pneumoniae strains were susceptible to several antibiotics, including vancomycin and linezolid. However, more than 10% of children with PM experienced adverse outcomes.
