Abstract

A new study conducted by a researcher at Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark explores the role of spinal muscles in the development and progression of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The study used transcutaneous electric stimulation (TES) and electromyography (EMG) to evaluate muscle activity during motor tasks. The findings suggest that spinal muscles have a stabilizing function in small-curve AIS, but become scoliogenic in larger curves. The study also found that higher EMG ratios indicate heightened asymmetric spinal muscle activity. However, further research is needed to validate these findings. [Extracted from the article]
