Abstract
- A recent study published in the journal Pulmonary Circulation discusses the use of pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) as a treatment for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) with bronchial obstruction caused by a carcinoid tumor. The study highlights the importance of careful assessment in cases where CTEPH is combined with bronchial obstruction by a tumor, as PEA for obstructed segments may be less effective and subsequent surgical resection more challenging. The researchers describe a case of a 75-year-old man with CTEPH and bronchial obstruction by a typical carcinoid tumor, where bronchoscopic evaluation and removal of the tumor improved the effectiveness of PEA for all affected pulmonary segments. This report provides insights into a PEA strategy for treating CTEPH with bronchial tumor obstruction. [Extracted from the article]
