Abstract
- A recent study published in Renal Replacement Therapy discusses the case of a 53-year-old man on hemodialysis who developed hypothyroidism after being treated with roxadustat, a hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor. The patient had also received multiple blood transfusions and was diagnosed with iron overload. The study suggests that regular monitoring of thyroid function may be necessary in patients with renal anemia who are treated with roxadustat, especially those at high risk of thyroid dysfunction. This case highlights the potential for roxadustat to impair thyroid-stimulating hormone secretion. [Extracted from the article]
