Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from Indiana University School of Medicine focused on Haemophilus ducreyi, a bacterium that causes cutaneous ulcers and genital ulcer disease. The study investigated the role of formate production and transport in the virulence of H. ducreyi. The researchers found that while formate production occurs during in vitro growth and certain genes are upregulated during human infection, formate production and transport are not necessary for the bacterium's virulence in humans. The study was supported by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. [Extracted from the article]
