Abstract
- This case report presents a rare, large torus mandibularis found in the left lower jaw of a 16-year-old female. The patient reported a painless swelling under the tongue, causing discomfort while chewing and accompanied by gingival bleeding with brushing. Clinical examination revealed a significant indurated swelling covering a quarter of the mouth's floor with more pronounced calculus deposits in the left lower quadrant, indicating a periodontal problem. An incisional biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of torus mandibularis, leading to the decision for a complete surgical excision. The case emphasises the importance of recognizing torus mandibularis as both a normal variation and a potential source of complications. Dentists are reminded to stay vigilant; regular monitoring is essential to ascertain whether the torus is experiencing growth, as its size may potentially lead to other oral health issues such as periodontal disease.
