Abstract

A study conducted at Majmaah University in Saudi Arabia aimed to identify the risk factors and clinical features of Acanthamoeba Keratitis (AK), a type of infectious keratitis. The study included 134 eyes of 126 patients and found that younger females and contact lens wearers were more likely to develop AK. Clinical characteristics such as epithelial defect, ring infiltrate, radial keratoneuritis, and endothelial plaques were associated with the possibility of Acanthamoeba infection. The researchers concluded that promoting education on wearing contact lenses is essential in reducing the risk of AK. [Extracted from the article]
