Abstract

This study investigates the moderating effect of firm type of MSMEs on the relationship between ambidexterity and earnings performance. This idea was tested using a quantitative methodology in this study. The research instrument was a questionnaire filled out by the respondents. The participants in this study were all MSME leaders in Tangerang City, Banten, Indonesia. For this study, 209 participants were randomly selected, and data were analyzed using a structural equation model (SEM). This study found that ambidexterity has a positive and statistically significant effect on financial performance. In addition, the type of MSMEs increases the relationship between all aspects of ambidexterity (product exploration, product exploitation, market exploration, and market exploitation) and revenue performance. The research proposes a novelty study, namely to analyze to what extent the type of MSMEs can moderate ambidexterity on income performance by also analyzing control variables (gender, age, and education) using Multilevel regression analysis, which has never been done by researchers before, at least in the MSME sector in Indonesia.
