Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers from Xuanwu Hospital Capital Medical University in Beijing, China, explored the effects of deep brain stimulation (DBS) at different frequencies on neurogenesis in a rat model of Parkinson's disease (PD). The study found that high-frequency DBS at 130Hz improved motor function and increased the survival of dopaminergic neurons in the PD rat model. Additionally, this stimulation enhanced the proliferation of neural stem cells and neuroblasts in the subventricular zone (SVZ) and facilitated the generation of new neural stem cells in the rostral migratory stream (RMS). However, DBS at frequencies of 60Hz and 180Hz did not produce comparable effects. These findings provide valuable insights into the mechanistic basis of DBS as a therapeutic approach for PD.
