Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) explores the impact of maternal choline supplementation on foetal growth and leptin levels in late gestation. The study found that a maternal obesogenic diet led to increased leptin levels in the foetal stomach, placenta, and amniotic fluid (AF), which were associated with premature foetal weight gain. However, maternal choline supplementation partially mitigated these effects, although the results differed between control diet (CD) and western diet (WD) dams. The researchers concluded that further research is needed to understand the sex-specific effects of choline supplementation. [Extracted from the article]
