Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Sardegna in Sassari, Italy, has found that immunohistochemistry (IHC) using two monoclonal antibodies (mAbEmG3 and mAbEm2G11) is a reliable tool for diagnosing cystic echinococcosis (CE) in patients from Sardinia, Italy. The study involved 13 patients suspected to be affected by CE, and IHC successfully detected Echinococcus granulosus sensu stricto in 12 of the 13 echinococcal cysts. The researchers concluded that IHC with these antibodies showed high performance in diagnosing CE caused by E. granulosus s.l. strains from Sardinia. [Extracted from the article]
