Abstract
- A recent preprint abstract discusses the development of a method to induce meiosis, an important reproductive process, from human pluripotent stem cells. The researchers used DNMT1 inhibition, retinoid signaling activation, and overexpression of certain regulatory factors to rapidly activate meiosis in the stem cells. The study demonstrated key aspects of meiosis, such as chromosome synapsis and sex body formation, and found that the meiotic cells expressed genes similar to those found in meiotic oogonia in vivo. This research provides an accessible system for inducing human meiosis in vitro, which could accelerate research and the development of therapies for infertility. [Extracted from the article]
