Abstract

A patent application has been submitted for a new technology called microfluidic enzyme-linked paper analytical device (mEL-PAD), which aims to improve the performance of lateral flow assays (LFAs) used for point-of-care testing. LFAs are commonly used for rapid diagnostic tests but have limitations in sensitivity and quantification. The mEL-PAD utilizes a vertical flow microfluidic device that incorporates enzyme-linked assays into paper-based devices. This technology has the potential to enhance the analytical performance of LFAs and enable easy-to-use point-of-care tests with high sensitivity and accuracy. The device can be used to detect various analytes, and a smartphone can be used to quantify the color change. [Extracted from the article]
