Abstract

A recent report from the University of Arizona discusses a case of spinal cysticercosis, a rare parasitic infection of the nervous system caused by the ingestion of tapeworm eggs. The report describes the case of a 66-year-old Hispanic man who initially presented with back pain and was discharged without a neurosurgical consultation. However, he returned a week later with worsening symptoms and was found to have larval cysts of the tapeworm in his spinal canal. The patient underwent surgical exploration and made a full recovery. The report emphasizes the importance of considering spinal cysticercosis as a potential diagnosis in patients with back pain. [Extracted from the article]
