Abstract

A study conducted by researchers from Mekelle University in Ethiopia aimed to assess the prevalence of diarrhea and associated factors among internally displaced children under the age of five in Mekelle City. The study found that the two-week prevalence of diarrhea among these children was 52.3%. Factors such as educational status, disposal practices of children's fecal matter, water storage period, water treatment practices, cleaning practices of water storage materials, water supply, and hand-washing practices were significantly associated with diarrhea prevalence. The researchers concluded that improvements in water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in the internally displaced persons (IDP) centers are necessary to reduce the burden of diarrhea.
