Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Universidad de Santander in Colombia examined the relationship between runoff and cases of leptospirosis, a zoonotic disease caused by spirochete bacteria. The study focused on the top 20 municipalities in Colombia with the highest number of leptospirosis cases and analyzed monthly data from 2007 to 2022. The findings suggest a lagged effect of runoff on leptospirosis cases within 0 to 2 months when the runoff is less than 120 g/m2. No significant effect was found for longer lagged periods or higher runoff values. The study also incorporated the multidimensional poverty index into the analysis, which contributed to the models for certain lagged periods.
