Abstract

A researcher at Lanzhou University in China has published new data on Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that can cause stomach ulcers and other gastrointestinal issues. The study focused on the use of probiotics, specifically three strains of Lactobacillus plantarum, which were found to be highly resistant to H. pylori. In vitro experiments showed that these strains inhibited H. pylori and could co-aggregate with it. In a self-controlled study with volunteers, the probiotics led to improvements in discomfort, reduction in symptoms, and modulation of inflammatory response. However, they did not significantly affect the imbalance of gut microbiota caused by H. pylori infection. The study suggests that these strains of Lactobacillus plantarum could be a potential probiotic treatment for H. pylori infection by inhibiting its activity and colonization, reducing inflammation and discomfort, and affecting metabolic pathways.
