Abstract

A new report from Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, Ireland presents fresh data on the use of transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) as an alternative to proctectomy for the treatment of complex rectal polyps and early rectal cancers. The study evaluated changes in practice and outcomes before and after the implementation of TAMIS. The researchers found that TAMIS resulted in a significant reduction in the number of proctectomies performed, a decrease in length of inpatient stay, and comparable oncological outcomes. The availability of TAMIS has also led to a reduction in postoperative complications. [Extracted from the article]
