Abstract

A new study published in the medical journal Neurology suggests that a drug used to prevent migraines may also be effective in treating rebound headaches in people with chronic migraines. The study involved 755 participants with chronic migraines, and those who took the drug, called atogepant, had fewer monthly migraine and headache days and used less pain medication compared to those who took a placebo. The drug is a calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor antagonist, which plays a role in starting the migraine process. However, more research is needed to evaluate the long-term safety and effectiveness of atogepant. [Extracted from the article]
