Abstract
- A recent report from the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory in Pasadena, California, discusses the biomechanical efficacy of middle trapezius tendon (MTT) transfer for the treatment of irreparable isolated supraspinatus tendon tears (IISTTs). The study used cadaveric shoulders to evaluate the effects of MTT transfer on humeral rotational range of motion, superior translation of the humeral head, and subacromial contact characteristics. The results showed that MTT transfer effectively restored the stability of the humeral head without restricting range of motion, suggesting that it may be a potential surgical treatment for IISTTs. The research has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. [Extracted from the article]
