Abstract

Newborns, especially premature infants, are at high risk for complications during intravenous infusion treatments. Extravasation, the leakage of infusion fluids into surrounding tissues, can lead to severe outcomes such as tissue necrosis, infection, and even death. Factors contributing to extravasation include chemical stimulation from certain drugs, infusion rate and temperature, type of infusion tools and site, nurse proficiency, and certain neonatal diseases. Understanding these factors is crucial for preventing extravasation and improving outcomes for neonates undergoing intravenous therapy. [Extracted from the article]
