Abstract

A new report from Tianjin University in China discusses the diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH), a type of hydrocephalus that is often misdiagnosed as brain atrophy. The report presents the case of a 68-year-old male patient who experienced gait deterioration, cognitive decline, and urinary incontinence. Through the use of multimodality diagnostic approaches, including brain imaging and cerebrospinal fluid tap tests, the patient was diagnosed with iNPH and underwent successful ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery. The researchers conclude that these multimodality approaches are effective in diagnosing iNPH and can save time and clinical costs. [Extracted from the article]
