Abstract

This article examines the gender dynamics in the Chinese working class, focusing on the organization of production chains and the feminization of certain industries. It discusses the traditional gender roles observed in family-based workshops and the challenges faced by women in sectors such as the service industry and platform-based work. The article also explores the gendered division of labor in the day labor sector and the unique challenges faced by older workers. It highlights the marginalization and vulnerability of women in the labor market, including unequal pay and harassment, and discusses different models of organizing, including self-organized small groups and the use of digital media. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for adaptable and resourceful organizing strategies to address the challenges and precarity faced by workers in China. [Extracted from the article]
