Abstract

Researchers at Children's Hospital Philadelphia have conducted a study on the treatment of syndromic craniosynostosis, a condition characterized by the premature fusion of the skull bones. The study compared the outcomes of patients who underwent early posterior vault distraction osteogenesis (PVDO) with those who received conventional treatment. The results showed that patients who underwent PVDO had a reduced need for subsequent craniofacial procedures, such as fronto-orbital advancement (FOA) and revisionary frontal procedures. This research suggests that early PVDO may change the treatment paradigm for syndromic craniosynostosis and lead to better long-term outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
