Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Ottawa focused on the effects of ketone bodies, specifically acetoacetate and beta-hydroxybutyrate, on glucose uptake in skeletal muscle cells. The study found that exposure to acetoacetate increased basal glucose uptake in the cells, while beta-hydroxybutyrate had a variable effect on basal glucose uptake. The researchers concluded that these findings provide insight into the effects of ketone bodies in specific metabolic diseases and nutritional states, such as type 2 diabetes and ketogenic diets. The study has been peer-reviewed and published in AJP Cell Physiology. [Extracted from the article]
