Abstract
- A study conducted by the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Roeselare, Belgium, has found that a rare case of drug-induced liver injury was caused by a CYP2D6 gene polymorphism that led to dysfunction and accumulation of a potentially hepatotoxic metabolite of the drug Trazodone. The patient, a 46-year-old female with a history of type I diabetes, alopecia areata, and autoimmune hypothyroidism, experienced significant hepatocellular hepatitis. The researchers recommend targeted pharmacogenomic testing to minimize the risk of drug-induced liver injury. This research has been peer-reviewed and published in Acta Gastro Enterologica Belgica.
