Abstract
- This document is a letter to the editor of the Journal of the Korean Society of Radiology. The author, Josef Finsterer, raises several points of discussion regarding a retrospective study on brain lesions in patients with liver cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy. Finsterer suggests that the study should consider other organ involvement in patients with liver cirrhosis, rule out nontoxic liver cirrhosis, explore infectious or immune encephalitis as potential causes of cerebral lesions, provide more information on the diagnosis of drug-induced hepatitis, define the terms used in the study, and consider the impact of liver transplantation on cerebral imaging abnormalities. The author concludes that further investigation is needed to exclude other cerebral complications associated with liver cirrhosis before attributing brain lesions solely to hepatic encephalopathy.
