Abstract

Researchers at Federal University Pelotas in Brazil have conducted a study on the antibiofilm activity of biogenic silver nanoparticles (Bio-AgNP) and polymyxin B against carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CR-Ab). Acinetobacter baumannii is a bacteria associated with nosocomial infections and is difficult to control due to its antibiotic resistance and ability to form biofilms. The study found that Bio-AgNP and polymyxin B, when used alone or in combination, demonstrated inhibitory and biofilm-disrupting activity against CR-Ab. This research suggests that Bio-AgNP could be an alternative in the control of CR-Ab strains. [Extracted from the article]
