Abstract

A recent study conducted at MedStar Washington Hospital Center examined the impact of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) on patients who received a durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. The researchers found that there is no consensus on postoperative management for patients with preoperative CRT. The study revealed that patients with preoperative CRT who had it turned "on" after LVAD implantation had a significantly increased risk of mortality compared to those with preoperative CRT turned "off." However, there was no significant difference in the incidence of ventricular arrhythmias between patients with and without postoperative CRT. The researchers concluded that further clinical trials are needed to determine the best CRT programming strategy following LVAD implantation. [Extracted from the article]
